Shocking Arrest for SK Receptionist
SK clinic + spa proudly supported a very unusual fundraising event for local charity, St Nicholas Hospice.
Staff at the SK Clinic + Spa in Bury St Edmunds were left shocked and stunned on the morning of Friday 5th December when police officers from the Suffolk Constabulary arrived at their Northgate Street premises to arrest and handcuff receptionist Zena Galvin.
After being bundled into a police car, a bemused Zena was seen nervously peering out of the back window of the vehicle as it was driven off in haste. However, the SK staff’s fears were soon allayed when Zena rang shortly after to confirm that she been arrested for ‘overuse of facebook’, and was being held ‘captive’ at the Farmers Club. Zena urgently needed to raise £500 in order to secure her release. The unusual stunt was all part of a fundraising event held in aid of the St Nicholas Hospice in Bury. Alongside Zena, twelve senior members of the local community had also been arrested for petty crimes and were being held in ‘jail’ frantically phoning colleagues, friends and family to raise money to bail them out and to see who could raise the most.
SK Spa Manager Tonia Reed quotes “The girls at SK were left speechless when Zena was arrested and taken away in a police car. I knew what was coming but the look on their faces was priceless! As a new business in Bury we are delighted to be supporting such a dedicated and worthwhile local charity and this fun event seemed a great way to get involved.”
The St Nicholas Hospice sees around 2000 patients each year and cares for those with life-threatening illnesses. Their facilities care not only for the patient but also their friends and family. St Nicolas Hospice relies upon support from the local community to meet the day to day running costs, which at present are approximately 4 million a year. Only a quarter of this money comes from government funding, the rest is down to enormous fund-raising efforts.
Zena Galvin, SK Spa Receptionist quotes “I am delighted to have raised £500 bail money, what a relief! Many thanks to all my friends, family and colleagues for donating money towards my release and supporting this wonderful charity; I did wonder for a moment whether they might pay to keep me in!”
