Simple changes can make big differences. However, keeping them up is another matter. Making New Year’s Resolutions is a great way to update and revamp skincare routines, but by making too many changes, not only can make them difficult to follow; but may overload the skin. 

The team at SK have listed some ideas for your New Year Skin regime, pick and choose the ones which suit you… 

Clean Up

Your make-up bag can be the perfect environment for bacteria if it’s not cleaned on a regular basis. Make-up brushes are the worst culprits and should be cleaned at least once a month. You can use a specialist brush cleaning liquid or baby shampoo. Also, remember to check the expiry date on your cosmetics. It’s easy to forget but using out of date products not only smell fusty and unpleasant, but they are more likely to react with your skin, and not in a good way. 


We mention this a lot, but trust us, it’s so important! Sunscreen isn't just for the summer and should be worn throughout the year, as there are still UVA and UVB rays around. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen and make sure it’s at least SPF 15. If you love your outdoor activities, then this is especially important and up the SPF to 30.

Going to see a specialist about your skin is not something most of us think of, however a visit to the dermatologist can be highly-beneficial. They will check your moles and general skin health, examine and give specific advice about your skin. Make sure they are accredited, and registered with the British Association of Dermatologists - 

Serum Sensational

Do you use a facial serum?  A serum is a powerful clear, gel-like, solution which is applied to the skin. It is absorbed quickly due to the small molecules found within it and means that they penetrate deep into the skin. A gram of hyaluronic acid has the ability to hold up to six litres of water!

We Are What We Eat

Our skin is an excellent indicator to our general health and wellbeing. And it is true, great skin does begin with the right foods. Having a well-balanced diet is key and no faddy diets either. Make sure to have your 5-a-day, along with healthy fats and protein. Protein is important one for your skin, as it helps to reduce collagen depletion.

No Touching

You wake up, look in the mirror and overnight a spot has appeared which is crying out to be picked! It’s so tempting as they are unsightly but please, trust us, don’t! Having a pick at that spot can lead to minor and sometime larger skin infections, it can spread and cause more breakouts and slows down the healing process - so that unsightly zit will hang around for longer. Depending on the level of damage, this can cause scaring too. So, wash your face twice a day and leave the spots alone. Trust your new skincare regime and healthy lifestyle!
