Suffolk Spa Helps Pamper the Pooches

On Wednesday 10th April, staff from SK Clinic + Spa, in Northgate Street, Bury St Edmunds ‘rehomed’ 10 large bags of cotton towels with the Blue Cross Rehoming Centre in Ipswich.

The salon has been refreshing and updating its supplies, which resulted in a large quantity of towels no longer being needed but still with plenty of life left in them. Not wanting to add to landfill and thinking that the dated materials could be of use of others, staff at SK Clinic + Spa put their heads together to find a home for them.

Staff contacted the local Blue Cross, knowing that the dogs and cats, awaiting a new forever home, could use the towels as part of their bedding, or the staff can use them in the animals’ cleaning routine.

Tracey Salmon, from Blue Cross said “The towels will be used when we are bathing our dogs, as bedding for cats and dogs (and to provide security for them as covers over dens) and for the less glamorous jobs of general cleaning use around the centre.

We are always grateful for donations and have an exciting programme underway to launch a sensory garden for the dogs. We have an appeal for additional items to help the animals, with details on our website.”

SK Clinic + Spa Manager, Lyndsey Flannery along with Amy Gilson, from the Marketing team, handed over the supplies when they visited the Blue Cross Rehoming Centre in Bourne Hill, Ipswich on Wednesday 10th April at 2pm.

The ladies from the spa were treated to a tour of the facilities and met some of dogs and cats either waiting to be collected by their new owners, or still awaiting selection.

Jenna (above) from Blue Cross explained their processes and how new animals are gently integrated.

Lyndsey (above) said “It’s great to think that our old towels will provide some support to the amazing centre in Ipswich. From our visit we can see that all the animals are loved and very well looked after during their time with Blue Cross. The care and hard work form all the team is clear to see.

We hope this will encourage other businesses to look at recycling similar items, rather than throwing out.”
